unhidden

We are aware of the fortune of having so many special places near our home, as many there are in every country and place, all so special but also so different.

Places that have to be protected, preserved, small wild islands of raw nature we need to treat with the respect they deserve. The last places in where we can feel, and perceive, the unavoidable and tremendous power of the earth on us.
Where we still feel the weak animals we are.

The pine forest where we shot “UnHidden” is one of the darkest, most uncomfortable and alive forest we’ve ever been.
A limited area surrounded by more luminous and friendly beech trees, where the sun can’t reach the soil and the wind always blows.

We are guests, not necessarily unwelcome, but observed.
The creaking of the wood, the shadows moving, the incredibly tall pines that keep to sway disturbingly on your head constantly make you turn your sight and ear, on alert.

Also walking in it, it feels like crossing a border, a threshold. There are no doors, but the line is clear on the soil and the first trees let you pass as majestic, heavy curtains.

We love this place, and we keep coming back.
We wonder how many small dark sanctuary like this there still are, but we just don’t know where, and we only found them by mistake, fortuity or recall.

The wooden masks we used for this video are made by our dear friend and awesome artist Emanuel Gavioli.

We are very close to our home, in the territory of “Piane di Mocogno” (Modena).
